After an important season-opening win against the Langley Rams, the Vancouver Island Raiders (1-0) will hit the road to face the Westshore Rebels (0-1) at Westhills Stadium in Week 2 of BCFC action.

The Raiders, who successfully put 10 points on the board in the final quarter to get the 22-14 win over the 2014 Cullen Cup winners, were led by second year All-Canadian quarterback Liam O’Brien. O’Brien went 18 of 32 for 208 yards with a touchdown pass to Dustin Rodriguez and a score of his own. Most impressively, the Raiders defence effectively contained the Rams by forcing four turnovers, a fumble, a turnover on downs, and two interceptions. Several key players on the Raider’s defence include Josh Paisley, who led the defence with six tackles and two assists, and Bryce Wallace and Dexter Shea, who recorded an interception each.

The Westshore Rebels, led by new coach and quarterback specialist JC Boice, are also joined by former Team BC member Ashton McKinnon who joins the team from the University of Manitoba. Last week against the Okanagan Sun, the Rebels rotated three quarterbacks but were only able to throw one touchdown pass to Alex Wright and only had 125 yards of net offence all night, and will look to improve on those numbers this week. On defence, the Rebels were led by Jordan Goertzen who recorded six tackles, Cody Wist, who had two picks, and Cohan Sassaman, who recorded a sack.

Last season, the Raiders swept both of their matchups against the Westshore Rebels, but will the Rebels be able to break their losing streak this season? Make sure to tune in this week and catch all of the BCFC action!
